The various aspects of the study of Venus by the Vega (Venus-Halley) probe are reviewed. Particular attention is given to the Vega descent module, the dynamics and structure of the Venusian atmosphere (with emphasis on the global vortex), the chemical composition of the atmosphere (with emphasis on the water deficit), the clouds, the surface of the planet, and the first results of the Vega mission.
