The Hubble parameter relating the distance of a galaxy to its velocity recession, is defined. It is shown that a determination of the age of the universe can be obtained on the basis of H. Some difficulties in assigning a value to H are discussed, and current methods for estimating the age of the universe are described. Consideration is given to: nuclear chronology; calculations of the ages of the oldest stars; and measurements of the age of the universe derived from its expansion in the relation V = HD.
