There have been great advances in recent years in our understanding of plasma physics using remote observation and direct, in situ measurement. These have allowed us to understand some of the details of the subject as well as appreciate the subtlety and complexity of the field. Plasmas, often under similar conditions, abound throughout the universe and much astrophysical research relies upon a secure application of fundamental plasma physics principles to remote cosmic environments. Transport processes, magnetic reconnection and collisionless shock structure are three areas where space plasma physics has had an impact. In this talk I will use selected examples to connect our study of the heliosphere to that of the cosmos. I will conclude with a proposal that astronomy students be taught more plasma physics and MHD.
