We investigate the evolution of ion beams observed upstream of quasi-parallel shocks in the presence of a pre-existing spectrum of Alfvénic low-frequency fluctuations based on a two and a half dimensional hybrid simulation. Particular attention is given to an injection mechanism related to that suggested for quasiperpendicular shock called multiply reflected ion (MRI) acceleration ( Zank et al., 1996; Lee et al., 1996). We outline the major effects of waves on ion beams and speculate how these processes are related to observations.
