It is shown that the Tolman-Hawking metric can naturally be transformed into the metric of a Schwarzschild black hole in five dimensions if we allow light cones to tip over on the hypersurfaces according to the conservation laws of a gravitational kink. The resulting Tolman-Hawking kink describes transitions between two asymptotically flat regions of different coordinate patches through ``tunneling'' that occurs on some imaginary sectors of the Kruskal coordinates, avoiding the spacetime singularity.
