We study the energetics of RHESSI and TRACE observations for a sample of 11 solar flares well observed in the TRACE ``white light" channel. In general, the data show excellent correlations between hard X-rays and white light. We discuss the energetics of this relationship based upon simple models for the visible/UV continuum, namely (i) a non-thermal approximation (Balmer and Paschen continuum), (ii) a thermal approximation (blackbody), and (iii) model spectra derived from radiation-hydrodynamic modeling. We relate the white-light energy and the low-energy cutoff energy of the primary electron spectrum required for energetic equivalence. This comparison will be made in the context of the flare WL morphology and in comparison with RHESSI hard X-ray images.
