The presence of circumstellar matter in typical Algol systems raises problems in obtaining photometric solutions which approximate as nearly as possible the true geometric parameters of the systems. A model is developed to analyze gas stream effects in typical Algol systems. It is shown that the interpretation of the 32-year term during minima as due to apsidal motion cannot be accepted. It is suggested that the rotational axes of the primary components are somewhat oblique to the orbits and that precessional motions of these axes together with brightness variations caused by gas stream effects result in observable periodic terms of the minima in the case of partial primary eclipses.
