Radio observations at frequencies of 1720 and 2700 MHz of the previously unrecognized supernova remnant G40.5-0.5 are reported. The radio spectral index of the remnant is 0.41 + or - 0.05 over the range 750-2700 MHz. Slight linear polarization may have been detected. Application of the most recent Sigma-D relationships suggests that the distance to the remnant is 5.5-8.5 kpc, that its linear diameter is about 50 pc, and that it lies some 60 pc below the nominal Galactic plane. The implied position is on or near the inner edge of the Sagittarius arm, the low observed linear polarization being a likely consequence of depolarization in the intervening material.
