Characteristics of bubble-like structures observed in the H-alpha line at the edge of the solar disk are described. Aspects covered include morphology, number of bubbles, lifetime, mean height and ascent velocity, lateral velocity, angle between velocity vector and normal to the solar limb, H-alpha intensity, and diameter. Present data are compared to those of Rush and Roberts (1954). Two hypotheses on the origin of the bubbles are examined: one assuming that they break off from spicules, and the other positing their formation in the lower chromosphere.
