This paper reconsiders the theory for the generation of an Alfven wave by nonlinear mixing of two whistler waves. The Alfven wave is allowed to propagate at arbitrary angles to the geomagnetic field, and its frequency need not be much smaller than the ion gyrofrequency. In this way we can obtain coupling strengths which are larger than those of previous theory.
