A blast-wave physics model is applied to observations of the spectral energy distributions of blazars. Numerical simulation results showing instantaneous and time-averaged spectra for blast-wave evolution are presented for an idealized case with different values of the initial Lorentz factors of the outflow. The results are compared with the trend of blazar properties ranging from flat spectrum radio quasars to high-frequency peaked BL Lac objects. The long-term averaged spectra and short-term flaring spectra calculated from temporally evolving blast waves are in qualitative agreement with the different spectral states observed from BL Lac objects. .
