The results of theoretical studies and observations of large air showers in the energy range from 10 to the 15th to 10 to the 19th eV, are reviewed. Cerenkov light measurements and radio and optical data, the distribution of electrons, muons, and hadrons in large air shower events are given. The data are discussed within the framework of current theoretical models of shower structure. Experiments are proposed to determine the structure of large air showers at core distances of about 1000 m.
