A spectacular magnetic storm occurred on July 13, 1982, probably triggered by a large solar flare on July 12, 1982. Attention is presently given to the physical consequences of these events in the near-earth environment, conducting an analysis on the basis of data from the METEOSAT-F2 electrostatic analyzers, a similar instrument aboard the P78-1 spacecraft, 50-500 eV electron data from GEOS-2, and magnetometer data from GOES-2.
