As intergalactic space (IGS) occupies over 99% of the available space in the Universe and as the density is so low (10-5 - 10-6cm-3), the cumulative action of a real (as opposed to virtual) zero-point field on IGS particles should energize the intergalactic medium and contribute to the isotropic cosmic X and γ-ray backgrounds.
