Magnetic fields thread the dense clouds of interstellar gas in which stars form. Densities of gas and dust are sufficiently high to shield these clouds from ionizing radiation and cosmic rays, allowing the gas in them to mostly recombine and reach levels of ionization below parts per million. Under these conditions ion-neutral drift becomes an important physical mechanism. I will review its effects on wave propagation, the dissipation of turbulence, the structure and stability of shock waves, the structure of protostellar disks and the formation of meteoritic chondrules in them, and on the formation of binary and multiple stellar systems.
