A numerical model describing vertical propagation of internal gravity waves (GWs) from troposphere to the upper atmosphere is developed. The model is used to explain the season-altitude climatology of the horizontal wind variance observed in the stratosphere, mesosphere and the lower thermosphere with rocket experiments and medium frequency radars at different latitudes. It is shown that semi-annual oscillation of wind variance in mesosphere and low thermosphere may be simulated without introducing of additional GW sources distributed at the stratospheric-mesospheric heights. The model successfully reproduces spectral characteristics and altitude-seasonal variations of wind velocity variances.
