This paper tries to give an overview about present and future prospectives of spaceborne microwave investigation of planets in the solar system. After a short review about the measurement principle and its strong points, some examples about past, present and proposed future microwave instruments including their scientific requirements will be given and the technical progress will be illustrated. Interesting new instrument configurations will be discussed. Finally the paper will focus on spectrometer backends and figure out future development requirements.
