The maximal CP violation hypothesis depends on the phase convention of the
Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix. A phase convention which leads to successful
prediction under the maximal CP violation hypothesis is searched, and thereby,
possible structures of the quark mass matrices are speculated.
