In this paper we address the problem of coherence loss in a one-body like propagation of an excitation along a quantum channel S (spin 1/2 chain with XY interaction) when it is sidewise coupled to an uncontrolled second chain E. We employ a local version of the Loschmidt Echo to quantify the processes contributing to decoherence according to the nature of the S-E interactions. These are swept from XY, to the more many-body dipolar and Ising interactions. The comparison with decoherence rates obtained from the attenuation of specific interferences, favors the Loschmidt Echo as a more robust quantifier when many-body processes are involved.
