The nonlinear interaction, due to quantum electrodynamical (QED) effects,
between two electromagnetic pulses and a radiation gas is investigated. It is
found that the governing equations admit both modulational and filamentational
instabilities. The instability growth rates are derived, and the results are
discussed.
