Sprays are solar-flare-associated prominences showing knots of material which move at very high speed along virtually straight trajectories which intersect within small regions near the limb. They are vigorous plasma ejections which emanate from a rapid explosion-like expansion of a flare or part of it. Flare plasmas originally constrained in a closed magnetic field configuration eventually bursts the field open and escapes into the corona. An examination is presented on the dependence of the maximum height achieved by sprays on the velocity, when the sprays show deceleration and stop at the end of their propagation. The velocity is assumed to be greatest at the beginning, and so this maximum velocity defines the kinetic energy of each investigated knot at its start. The maximum height-maximum velocity relation was examined in 32 knots from 23 sprays. The problem of whether the maximum height achieved by a knot is determined by the gravitational field alone is studied.
