The investigation of the self-organization of planetary rings suggests that the observed phenomena can be explained with reference to collisions and collective interactions of particles. The ability of rings to form stable spatial structures may be connected not only with the collective dynamics but also with the fact that, from the standpoint of energy, the rings are an open system capable of active self-organization.
