Model calculations of the ejection of light ions into the magnetosphere from the high-latitude ionosphere (i.e., the polar wind) are presented. The calculation method is based on a detailed analysis of the stability of the numerical algorithms for the evolution of nonstationary fluxes of H(+) and O(+) ions which vary sharply with altitude. In particular, plasmaspheric refilling is calculated, taking isotropization of the upward ion fluxes into account.
