Solar Wind: Helium
Scientific paper
Selective measurements of the energy distributions of solar wind protons and α-particles made on the Prognoz-7 satellite are used to study the relationship between the relative abundance of α-particles and the hydrodynamic parameters of the solar wind. In the low-speed, cool, dense fluxes related to the closed coronal magnetic field configuration, the relative helium abundance increases with increasing speed and temperature and decreasing solar wind concentration, whereas in the high-speed, hot, tenuous fluxes related to the open coronal magnetic field configuration, the relative helium abundance decreases with increasing speed and temperature and decreasing concentration.
