We estimate the coalescence rate of the Galactic neutron star-neutron star (NS-NS) binaries, R co, by the Monte-Carlo method and simulations for pulsar surveys. We consider the two close binaries, PSR B1913+16 and PSR B1534+12, as a typical sample of the Galactic NS-NS population. By means of Bayesian analysis, we are able to derive the probability function of the total coalesence rate considering both binary systems and determine statistical confidence limits for the value of the rate we obtain. The most likely total estimated R co lies in the range ~ 3-30 Myr-1 for different models of the pulsar population characteristics. We also discuss the expected detection rate of NS-NS binaries by ground-based gravitational wave detectors such as LIGO I and II.
