Solar Granulation: Fine Structure

Scientific paper

A time sequence of high-quality granulation images has allowed to make a detailed study of the structures of intergranular lanes and their evolution in an area of approximately 106″times;114″on the solar surface near the centre of the solar disc. It is found that the intergranular lanes form starlike homocentric structures with a few beams and dark knots in the centre of the structure. Three types of evolution of these structures were found. The statistical nature of starlike structures is as follows: (1) The mean lifetime is 3.1 min. (2) The maximum size of the starlike structure is 3″3 or 2400 km on the solar surface. (3) The mean size of the central dark knots in the structure is 100 - 200 km on the solar surface.
