Maps of the Jovian upper troposphere temperatures derived from Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 infrared interferometer spectrometer (IRIS) spectra show large-scale features which move very slowly. The motion is very different from the inferred local fluid velocity. It is suggested that these features may indicate a deeply-rooted fluid dynamical regime beneath the surface meteorology.
