Cosmic Rays: Solar Modulation
Scientific paper
The amplitudes and indices of the long-term CR variations in solar activity cycles 19 - 21 are determined for optimal hardness in the interval 1 - 25 GV. It is shown that it is not possible to explain the spectra of the variations by a power law with a single exponent γ; γ depends strongly on the particle hardness and on the solar cycle epoch. Features of the time trend of the amplitude of the variations are explained from the viewpoint of the presence of drift currents. An estimate of the hardness function of the coefficient of particle diffusion shows that in the energy range examined this function becomes considerably steeper with an increase in hardness and is also a function of the configuration of the global field of the Sun.
