A discrete-space approximation is used to solve the geodetic boundary value problem set forth by Grafarend (1975). The discrete solution allows for the computation of deflections of the vertical, which are of interest in describing the earth's gravity field. The discrete-space analysis may also be employed in an assessment of errors arising from the approximate boundary value problem, from the mathematical description of the geodetic boundary problem, and from gravity data. Since the error due to gravity data is a random function, a stochastic study is suggested to resolve discrepancies.
