Pulsed high pressure mass spectroscopy was used to measure the thermodynamic values for the three following reversible reactions: (1) CO2H(+) + CH4 yields CH5(+) + CO2, (2) CS2H(+) + H2O yields H3O(+) + CS2, and (3) CS2H(+) + H2S yields H3S(+) + CS2. The application of this thermodynamic data to the ionospheric chemistry of the Mars atmosphere is illustrated by calculating the equilibrium cluster ion concentrations at the altitude of maximum ionization (about 130 km) and at the Mars surface, CO2 being always more than 90% of the atmospheric constituents, with smaller amounts of N2, Ar, and O2.
