The observation of enhancements and depressions on a global scale for ultralow frequency magnetic activity in the 20 to 60 mHz range is reported. Magnetic pulsations measured at similar latitudes (in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres) and at longitudes separated by as much as 5 hours in local time are discussed. Analysis of dynamic spectra produced from the measurements suggests that the enhancements and depressions in the magnetic pulsations may be controlled by the radial direction of the interplanetary magnetic field on days when the field is confined to the ecliptic plane. A treatment of the pulsation events as standing Alfven waves on field lines resonating with the frequency of a surface wave generated at or near the magnetopause boundary is also given.
