Some consequences are considered which result from introducing the concept of entropy for a finite universe. The behavior of entropy in the homogeneous and inhomogeneous phases of the universe is discussed, and it is argued that the entropy of the universe remained constant during the early homogeneous phases, independent of the form of interaction between constituents, and that the entropy in the inhomogeneous phase has increased according to the laws of classical thermodynamics. An analysis of entropy conservation during the homogeneous phase is presented which shows that the entropy is guaranteed to remain constant as long as the universe is homogeneous. It is concluded that only the most general thermodynamical-statistical principles, a set of energy-entropy relations, and the Friedmann continuity equation are required to prove entropy conservation during the homogeneous phase of the universe.
