Adaptive Optics: Instrumentation
Scientific paper
An adaptive optics system compensates in real-time for the atmospheric disturbances on the wavefront. Its two key components are the deformable mirror and the wavefront sensor. The two classes of adaptive optics systems used in astronomy are: the Shack-Hartmann-based systems and the curvature-sensor-based systems, first proposed by F. Roddier. The performance of the two systems is compared and their domain of use is given.
