A review of the outbursts of AW Sge suggest that the outburst interval is 286+/-28 days, which is much shorter than previously thought. The normal outbursts last less than 3 days and usually reach magnitude 14.5. The superoutbursts are about half a magnitude brighter and last about 8 days. A previously unrecognised superoutburst has been identified from 1961.
