The heavy ion content, of ionospheric origin, of the Earth’s plasma sheet, from -10 to -19 Re, as a function of the geomagnetic conditions and the solar activity is presented using data from the Cluster/CODIF instrument, which covers the energy range 40 eV/q to 40 keV/q. The geomagnetic conditions are described using the Kp, AE and Dst indices, while the solar activity is represented by the use of the F10.7 index. This statistical study is performed using data from solar maximum and solar minimum, delineating solar cycle effects in the ionospheric plasma outflow and redistribution. In addition, the spatial distribution (Y GSM direction) of the ionospheric populations is also studied.
