Results are presented on an analysis of the response of the plasma and field distribution to a time-varying reconnection rate in a current sheet with velocity shear, using a physicomathematical model of reconnection in a 2D configuration consisting of a current sheet separating two different plasma regions with antiparallel magnetic field orientations. Reconnection is initiated in a localized region of the current sheet known as the diffusion region. To clarify the results, several examples are presented which show the effect of reconnection rate in different current sheet configurations.
