While overall Perseid activity was rather normal in 1991, a short one-hour outburst was witnessed in Japan, yielding ZHRs of over 400. The position of this outburst in the Perseid activity profile coincides with the first peak of the double maximum found in 1988 and 1989 and points towards the presence of a new filament of particles connected with the return of the Perseids' parent comet P/Swift-Tuttle.
