Forty-three cases of evanescence of solar filaments were identified between 1984 - 1988 during periods of no geoeffective solar flares and no coronal hole crossings of the effective heliolongitudes. In approximately one-half of the cases (and in virtually all cases for the central portion of the solar disk) a small Forbush decrease is observed on earth several days after the filament evanescence.
