The aim of the GALLEX-experiment is to measure by means of a radiochemical gallium detector the solar neutrino flux coming from the hydrogen fusion reactions taking place in the core of the sun. The detector consists of a tank containing 101 t of a highly concentrated, hydrochloric GaCl3 solution. After an exposition time of 20 days approximately 10 germanium atoms, formed from gallium by reaction with neutrinos, have to be separated and measured. The procedure of the various steps of separation, concentration and purification is outlined. The method of counting the decays of radioactive 71Ge is described and possible side reactions which may interfere with the neutrino detection are mentioned.
