The paper is concerned with the problem of generation of concentration waves in the high-latitude ionosphere due to an instability occurring as a result of the dependence of the recombination coefficient on the electron temperature. It is shown that waves that are less than 1 km long will rise with an increment of 0.1/s when propagating at -45 deg to the electric field. For longer waves, the instability is possible only under perturbed conditions, with the waves increasing with an increment of 8/min during propagation at an angle of -125 deg to the electric field.
