The interaction of a magnetized plasma stream with a cloud of immobile ions is studied in the framework of a one-dimensional hybrid fluid-plasma model (strongly magnetized warm electrons, weakly magnetized cold ions). Interesting physical phenomena addressed are the formation of cloud-attached components, acceleration/deceleration of ions, plasma flow deflection and the excitation of stationary waves upstream and downstream of the cloud. Their relevance to artificial/natural situations in space plasmas are pointed out.
