A replica of one of Thomas Tompion's 1676 clocks has been installed in
the Octagon Room at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, in the space built
for the original instrument - the first time for 300 years that a
year-going clock with 13-foot pendulum and prototype ``dead-beat''
escapement will occupy the original Wren space.
