The characteristics of a new, very sensitive radio telescope currently under construction for use in the 1-4mm wavelength region, the large millimeter telescope (LMT), are described. The LMT with its planned instrumentation will provide an important new tool for studies of deuterated molecules, giving astronomers powerful probes of the linked chemistry and physics of interstellar molecular clouds and comets.
