The Higgs system of the minimal SU(5) cosmological model is extended to derive a successful inflationary scenario. An SU(5) singlet scalar field is introduced which acquires a nonzero vacuum-expectation value by developing a Coleman-Weinberg potential from its weak couplings to the adjoint and fundamental Higgs fields. A hot Big-Bang model is assumed, although the conclusions of the detailed analysis are found to apply to quantum-tunneling space-time-foam models as well.
