The influence of passage of solar wind interaction region where fast plasma overtakes the slow wind on low latitude geomagnetic field, is studied over a solar cycle. It is shown that the transit of interaction region is followed by significant geomagnetic changes. The magnitude of the change is a function of solar activity and local time. Solar wind velocity rather than the north-south component of IMF seems to be crucial parameter in the geoeffectiveness of the interaction region.
