Increasing evidence collected over recent years has shown that the best
local seeing conditions are found when the telescope is exposed to an
undisturbed moderate wind flow. This recognition has contributed
decisively to direct the design of new telescope buildings towards more
open and, incidentally, cheaper solutions than the conventional domes.
