A calibrated numerical simulation of seasons for which there are observations of the passage of active regions across the visible disk of the sun, generating a velocity signal that can be compared with the Claverie et al. (1982) observations, has yielded values of this signal for a complete solar cycle. The results obtained indicate that the periodicities of the solar surface rotation and its first harmonic are excited at the maximum phase of the cycle, in bursts of up to 20 months, and then disappear while approaching the minimum.
