Recent simulations of core-collapse supernova shocks in multiple dimensions have revealed that the structure instabilities below the post-bounce shock and in the nascent proto-neutron star is far more complex than originally thought. We have carried out numerical models of the onset of these instabilities with high spatial resolution that convey new insights into the formation of these instabilties. We present the results of these models and discuss the physics behind the formation of these instabilities. We further discuss the dependence of these instabilities on the uncertainties in the equation of state of hot, dense matter.
