The optical and mechanical characteristics of the Hipparcos telescope mirrors are studied. The telescope contains three mirrors: a beam combiner, a primary spherical mirror and a flat folding mirror. The beam combiner functions concerning the combination of the two fields of view, the definition of the entrance pupil, and the correction of the aberrations of the spherical mirror are discussed. The spherical and the flat mirrors are made of light weight zerodur blanks and measure 393 and 356 mm respectively. The steps in the manufacture of the beam combiner are included.
