The causes of variations in the cosmogenic Be-10 content of samples collected on earth are examined. Expressions are obtained which relate the rate of Be-10 formation to the intensity of the geomagnetic field, solar activity, and cosmic ray streams during close supernova explosions. The time variance of the intensity of cosmic rays for the past 30,000 years is calculated.
